We just hatched several million striped bass from the ProAqua strain here in California. This domesticated strain was developed in Chico, California from wild fish originally captured form the Sacramento River by ProAqua Owner, Tony Vaught. Several generations have been produced since 1987 to preform well in warm fresh and salt water. Crops of these fish are growing in fresh water farms in California and ocean cages in Mexico.

Just finished touring the Chelan Fish Hatchery in Eastern Washington, the new salmon rearing facility that is state of the art using circular rearing tanks, auto feeding, sophisticated monitoring systems, and a water treatment system. They also have a sturgeon program, rearing sturgeon to release in the Columbia River. Very impressive and it reminds me of my early days on the lower Columbia using wild fish as broodstock!
